For the uninitiated, Weekly Young Magazine published the original The Fable manga from November 2014 to November 2019 as well as its sequel series, The Fable: The Second Contact, from 19 July 2021 to July 2023.
The manga was a massive success, with over 22 million physical and digital copies sold worldwide. Additionally, two live-action action films based on The Fable, directed by Kan Eguchi, were released in 2019 and 2021. Now, veteran anime director Ryosuke Takahashi (known for Armored Trooper VOTOMS and Ozuma) will direct the upcoming series at Tezuka Productions.

Armed with his preferred weapon, a sleek anthracite-coloured Nighthawk pistol, Fable instils fear among the Japanese underworld, politicians, mobsters and public figures as a renowned professional killer. This master of assassination can swiftly kill anyone within six seconds, following his instincts. However, one day, his sponsor issues an unusual directive — a hiatus from his lethal activities to experience life as an ordinary citizen. Stationed in the hideout of a yakuza clan in Osaka, he is forbidden from killing or attacking anyone for an entire year. For this unpredictable and deadly human weapon, navigating a life surrounded by trigger-happy criminals marks the beginning of his most challenging contract.
The anime’s cast includes Kazuyuki Okitsu (known for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven) in the role of Akira Satō, Miyuki Sawashiro as Yōko Satō, Kana Hanazawa as Misaki Shimizu, Akio Ohtsuka as Takeshi Ebihara, Kenjiro Tsuda as Kojima, Tetsuo Komura as Boss and Jun Fukushima bringing Jackal Tomioka to life.
