SHY is one of the few Yen Press licenses that received an anime adaptation set for the 2023 release. Another popular, award-winning manga serialized by Yen Press, Oshi No Ko will also receive an anime adaptation. Created by Aka Akasaka, popular for his work with Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War, this forthcoming anime series belongs to the supernatural, drama genre.

SHY Manga Won The Newcomer’s Grand Prize In 2016

SHY manga’s official Twitter account also re-tweeted a tribute video for the series’ serialization that happened back in 2019. The video was a compilation of several illustrations from the manga. It originated as a 43-page one-shot manga by Bikumi. It even won the Newcomer’s Grand Prize at the Next Champion Contest held in 2016.

Later on, it also received a nomination in the print category at the Next Manga Awards in 2020. However, apart from these, the manga, unfortunately, didn’t get a lot of attention in terms of awards.

The official synopsis of the English manga reads:

“Earth was on the brink of a third World War when super-powered individuals came forth from each country around the globe, ending the conflict and ushering in a new era of relative peace. Among those heroes, Japan is represented by a timid young girl known as “Shy.” She may spend more time worrying about her own shortcomings than she does battling villains, but she’ll show the world that despite it all she still has the heart of a hero!”
