Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-Kun! is a popular fantasy isekai anime title that’s about to return for its third season in the Fall 2022 anime season. This is the tale of the blue-haired Iruma Suzuki and his scary but thrilling adventures in the Netherworld, the realm of demons and magic. Iruma is a fish out of water, but he’ll still give it his best shot.
Iruma is a lone human in a world of demons, so he aims to survive with sheer cleverness, kindness, the power of friendship, and, of course, the magic of his Ring of Gluttony. In fact, Iruma’s traits and his role in the Iruma-Kun! anime may remind anime fans of many similar characters. Iruma thinks he’s one of a kind down there in the Netherworld, but in reality, he’s in good company.
10/10 Orihime Inoue Has Magic Powers & A Heart Of Gold
Bleach
Iruma is totally different than Bleach‘s main star, the tsundere punk Ichigo Kurosaki, but Ichigo’s good friend Orihime Inoue is a whole different story. Orihime is a naturally compassionate, cheerful, and empathetic person who just wants everyone to be happy and get along, something that Iruma wants, too.
Orihime and Iruma are seemingly ordinary humans with magical talents to even the odds against stronger foes. Orihime’s Shun Shun Rikka is her version of Iruma’s Ring of Gluttony, and both of them have been on isekai adventures. The only difference is that Orihime isn’t stuck in those other worlds.
9/10 Izuku Midoriya Is Like A Buffed Iruma
My Hero Academia
Iruma Suzuki and the green-haired Izuku Midoriya actually have a lot in common, and not just because they’re both male shonen protagonist heroes. Both of them were born as nobodies, but now, they are attending a special school where they will slowly and surely make a name for themselves.
These anime boys were also gifted with a special power from a protective father figure, and they now have the power to save the day as true heroes. Both boys are also very kind and optimistic, and they love making friends like Ochaco Uraraka and Valac Clara.
8/10 Yuji Itadori Is A Tougher Iruma Suzuki
Jujutsu Kaisen
Most shonen leads are tougher than Iruma is, but it’s not a comparison of strength, it’s about the personality and lifestyle of these characters. Another good example of that is the cheerful Yuji Itadori, the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen. He’s a ray of sunshine in a very dark world.
Yuji and Iruma are both ordinary boys who became extraordinary when they received magical power overnight, and they will fight hard in a grim world of fantasy to protect their friends. they also have mentors to protect them, those being demon Lord Sullivan and Satoru Gojo.
7/10 Fuyumi Yanagi Ended Up In The Demon World
Blood Lad
The Blood Lad anime and manga franchise is an obscure one, but it’s also a delightful fantasy isekai romp that should appeal to any Iruma-Kun! fan. This is the tale of the high school girl Fuymi Yanagi and her wild misadventures in the demon realm, where she died and got turned into a ghost.
Fuyumi’s experience, aside from dying, is remarkably similar to Iruma’s own, and they both have demon friends who feel more human than not. Fuyumi is also a good-hearted, friendly person who is easy to get along with, just like Iruma Suzuki himself.
6/10 Anya Forger Has Magic Powers & A New Family
Spy X Family
Anya Forger may be just a little kid, but she should not be underestimated, and neither should Iruma Suzuki. Both of them were once ordinary youths, but now, they each have a special power up their sleeve, with telepathy being Anya’s supernatural tool of choice.
Anya and Iruma both ended up with a found family, with Anya getting adopted by Loid and his new wife Yor while Iruma became demon Lord Sullivan’s foster grandson. Not only that, Anya and Iruma are also students at a special school where they try to fit in.
5/10 Tohru Honda Has A Ton Of Love To Share
Fruits Basket
The lovable deredere shojo heroine Tohru Honda has a lot of love to give. Like Iruma Suzuki, she no longer has any parents in her life, but her heart is still bursting with generosity and kindness, and Tohru almost never dwells on her own problems. She is more concerned about the well-being of others instead.
So, Tohru and Iruma soon became a pillar of their respective social circles, and everyone knows they can rely on Tohru and Iruma to provide emotional support or listen to their problems without judging. Tohru even had a partial isekai adventure by venturing into the Sohma compound, a place of zodiac curses and secrets.
4/10 Ko Yamori Stumbled Into Another World
Call Of The Night
Just like Iruma Suzuki, Ko Yamori is a relatable 14-year-old shonen protagonist who feels lost in life. He doesn’t have greedy parents who sold him to demons, but then again, he was sure that mainstream Japanese society had nothing for him, so he explored a new, scarier world instead.
Ko began exploring the night, which is when vampires walk the streets. That means Iruma and Ko are both protagonists who abandoned human society to walk among supernatural monsters and creatures, either vampires or demons, and there’s no going back now. Thankfully, some of those monsters are friends.
3/10 Wakana Gojo Works Hard For His New Friends
My Dress-Up Darling
The parallels between Wakana Gojo and Iruma Suzuki are fairly broad and subtle, but they are certainly there. To begin with, Iruma and Wakana are both soft-spoken, humble, and helpful boys who just want to make others happy, and they always put the needs of others first. This endears them to most of the other cast members.
Wakana Gojo didn’t visit another literal world, but he did dive into the new figurative world of cosplay, a dazzling and exotic realm for him. He also has lively new friends such as the genki girl Marin Kitagawa and the tsundere Sajuna to keep him company. Marin is like Wakana’s own Valac Clara.
2/10 Lucy Heartfilia Found Her Own New Family
Fairy Tail
On one hand, Lucy Heartfilia is much bolder, more confident, and more outgoing of a shonen hero than Iruma Suzuki is, but their personal arcs are surprisingly similar. Both of them parted ways with troublesome parents and ended up on their own, lost in the world. Then they met their new family.
Lucy and Iruma both embraced a found family and embarked on all-new magical adventures with lots of friends, and they both use magical artifacts in battle, too. The Fairy Tail guildhall is Lucy’s own Babyls, and her Celestial keys are her own version of Iruma’s Ring of Gluttony.
1/10 Hitohito Tadano Is Just Some Nice Guy
Komi Can’t Communicate
Iruma Suzuki and Hitohito Tadano, if asked, would describe themselves as perfectly ordinary teenage boys who are much less interesting than the people around them. It’s true that Iruma and Hitohito are relatively normal compared to their exotic classmates, but they are still compelling.
Both of them are generous, kind-hearted helpers who can support anyone who needs them, and their closest friends are grateful for it at school. In fact, Hitohito has his own Valac Clara, the rambunctious but charming troublemaker Najimi Osana.
