The latest trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet introduces the Electric-type Gym Leader of Paldea, who has brought back a game from the anime.
The latest trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has introduced a new Gym Leader using a familiar minigame from the Pokémon anime. The new Gym Leader is Iono, the Electric-type Gym Leader from Levinicia, whose appearance was originally revealed in a blurred image in one of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s pre-trailer leaks, and she is a streamer/influencer.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be taking inspiration from Pokémon Sword and Shield for its Gym challenges. In the Paldea region, the player must first complete a Gym Test, before they are allowed to challenge the Gym Leader. Unlike previous generations of Pokémon games, the player is able to challenge the Gym Leaders of the Paldea region in any order. It’s currently unclear if there will be a suggested order of Gyms for players to face. However, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet improve Gym Leader battles by letting players choose the order.
The latest trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is now available on The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel and introduces Iono to the world. Rather than revealing a brand-new Pokémon outright, the trailer is taking inspiration from the Pokémon anime, with Iono hosting a game similar to “Who’s That Pokémon?”. The biggest difference is that there are currently no images of her partner Pokémon, just her description.
Pokémon’s Newest Gym Leader Wants Trainers To Guess Her Partner Pokémon
Iono mentions that the blue and pink Magnemite are just hairclips and not actual Pokémon, but they could be a hint as to what her new Pokémon will be. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leaks and rumors have hinted that there are new forms or versions of Magneton and Magnezone. It makes sense for a new version of one of these Pokémon to be introduced in a future trailer featuring Iono, when she finally reveals her Pokémon.
The trailer could also be hinting that Iono’s Gym Test involves similar questions, though this wouldn’t be new to the series, as there have already been Pokémon Gyms that have featured question-and-answer challenges, dating back to Blaine’s Gym in Pokémon Red and Blue. This would be a great way to use a “Who’s That Pokémon?” segment in the video games, with players needing to make a guess based on her hints. The Gym Test could be even more challenging, by forcing the player to have seen the Pokémon in the Paldea region and reveal its Pokédex entry. Even if that’s not the case, then the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer at least brings in something from the anime, even if didn’t officially announce any new Pokémon.
