Anime Music Industry Bounces Back With 195% Rise Post Covid19


The PIA Research institute, released a report on October 5, 2022, stating their research on the anime music industry related market trend during the time period of January to December 2021. The report states that the market size was 12.1 billion yen, a 195% increase compared to 2020.

The industry has almost tripled and rapidly recovered. However, it is still half of what it was in 2019.

Just like all major industries, anime industry was also hit hard by the Covid19 pandemic. The section within anime industry that was hit the hardest was the Anime-Music industry. The anime music industry relied heavily on live concerts, voice actors focusing on anime songs. According to survey by PIA research institute, the anime music industry was worth 24.5 billion yen in 2019, which dipped to 4.1 billion yen in 2020 during the early stages of Corona. The dip was due to mass cancellations, postponements and restrictions on events.

However, the situation for the anime music industry was still difficult in 2021 since there were still restrictions on the number of people that can attend an event.

The anime music industry has grown rapidly since 2013, where it earned 7.2 billion yen to 15.8 billion yen in 2015, 20 billion in 2018, and 24.5 billion yen in 2019.

Although, the pandemic still continued, the countermeasures take against it and the responses to the situation has progressed and the number of events including large-scale events has increased. The anime music industry is considered as one of the supporting industry for anime overall.
