New Original Anime About Trains Announced by Kadokawa

Original anime titled Shumatsu Train Doko he Iku? has been announced by Kadokawa earlier today. Not a lot has been revealed about the production, but we do know that Tsutomu Mizushima will be directing it. Mizushima is a well-known name among anime fans, having directed popular titles such as Another, Shirobako, Girls und Panzer (TV anime and the movies), xxxHOLiC, and more. The anime also revealed a caption, that only says “I wonder if we were friends.” A visual has been revealed:

Shumatsu Train Doko he Iku announcement is a timely one, as today is the Day of Railways in Japan (October 14). The day marks the 150th anniversary of the opening of the first railroad in Japan. The track connected Shimbashi in Tokyo and Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture and was opened on 14 October 1872.

Anime fans may remember Rail Romanesque; another train-themed anime that aired in the fall of 2020 and centered on young women who were personifications of train engines and railroads. A few recent titles (such as Demon Slayer’s Mugen Train movie) were also set on trains. Kadokawa’s new title seems to have a sci-fi twist to it.

In addition to the key visual, an official website for the anime has been launched. It is currently empty, except for the visual. An official Twitter account has also been opened. There is no official English title for the work but it could be translated as “Where Does the Doomsday Train Stop?
