I thought so too, but it mentions in the middle of this article that it got delayed. Pretty long delay too, and probably ruined that particular bit of media synergy.
I’m not especially interested in the phone game, but I did like the anime. Maybe more than most, considering some of the reactions at the time here.

I liked this anime BTW, thouh, I found the whole final conflict pretty cliche. It was better as a road movie.
