After receiving huge attention in Japan, and even taking home the Gold Prize in the 27th Dengeki Novel Prize of 2020, debut novelist Kousaka Mato’s quirky take on fantasy worlds will finally see an English release with Yen Press adapting the light novels of Guild no Uketsukejou desu ga, Zangyou wa Iya nanode Boss wo Solo Toubatsu Shiyou to Omoimasu (I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time).

Better known by the shorthand Guild Receptionist, this novel series stars Alina—a receptionist for the usual Adventurer’s Guild we see in practically every fantasy series. But have you ever stopped to think about how awful and time-consuming that job must be? And what about the overtime?!

Desperate to avoid drowning in paperwork, Alina sneaks out on her own quests to solo boss monsters and get home on time—she’ll just have to face terrifying monsters and somehow keep her escapades a secret, of course!

Final Thoughts

Sadly we don’t have time to go through all thirty-plus acquisitions from Yen Press, which included four new manhwa, and a bunch of different manga and novels, including the announcement of the extremely long-awaited Gimai Seikatsu (Days with My Stepsister), from the author of Tomodachi no Imouto ga Ore ni Dake Uzai (My Friend’s Little Sister Has It In For Me!).

Of course, we’re sure to be reviewing many of these titles as they release throughout this year and into 2024, so keep an eye out for our thoughts about the latest manga and light novels releasing! As always, thanks for reading!
