Throughout the years we have seen Square Enix remastered many titles such as Final fantasy 7, 8,9 and 10. Any bestseller or loved title, Square Enix always brings it back.
During the 25th Anniversary of Final Fantasy in the month of June 2022, Square Enix revealed th3 FF7 Crisis Core Remake, known as Reunion. Not only that but the FF7 Ever Crisis will be a compilation of all the titles as a pocket version for mobile platforms.
It seems that Square Enix is remaking everything that is Final Fantasy 7 whether if its with better graphics or relaunching it as in mobile devices, Square Enix wants their beloved and bestseller title to spread like wild fire. Final Fantasy 7 is Square Enix biggest cash cow.
However, whatever happened to Dirge of Cerberus? You know, Square Enix’s attempt at making a shooting game. The game that tells the story of Vincent Valentine. The most mysterious character in the series.
Dirge of Cerberus Sales
Square Enix did report that Dirge of Cerberus actually sold 460,000 copies in North America and 270,000 copies sold in European countries and finally 513,000 copies sold in Japan alone. So makes it a total of 1,243,000 copies sold world wide. Dont you think this game has sold enough copies for a remake.
Also lets not forget that if a remake is made, then Dirge of Cerberus can leverage off the success of the current gen games Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its compilations.
Why Dirge of Cerberus Remake is Likely To Happen
As said before, Square Enix is remaking most of their compilations of Final Fantasy 7. Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is basically going to be a compilation of all the side stories which includes Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children.
Square Enix had not done anything with FF7 Crisis Core since it was released for the PSP however, the 25th Anniversary revealed the remake for Zack Fair’s story coming to all platforms including PC (because its not the main line Final Fantasy title).
Lets not forget that Square Enix is also making an anime series with Netflix (the video streaming service has been investing heavily into anime). This means that they are probably going to bring back some of the animation titles they did back in the 2000s such as Last Order and expand upon that.
This is one of the reasons why Dirge of Cerberus is very likely to be remade or at least be treated as a small release for PC (like FF7 Crisis Core Reunion).
Vincent Valentine is one of the most Important Characters In The Series
Vincent Valentine is one of the most mysterious and important characters in the series for the simple fact that his story leads to the creation of Sephiroth. Not many have talked about it but there is a theory that Vincent is Sephiroths real father and Vincent feels deep regret for what happened in the past(for helping create a monster).
While Zack Fair’s story explains how Cloud because the way he was, Vincent story tells a much darker side of Final Fantasy 7 that fans might not be aware of. In Dirge of Cerberus Vincent went against the Deep Ground group which we also got a peek at in FF7 Remake Integrated with Yuffie.
While some people argue that Hojo is Sephiroth’s father because he was with Lucrecia (Vincent’s love) Sephiroth looks way too much like Vincent. This is where the mystery is.
Do you really think Square Enix is going to leave this story behind. There is just no way. Although the Dirge of Cerberus shooting game was not the best, there is no denying that Final Fantasy fans were blown away by the story of these characters. In Dirge of Cerberus we also learned who Vincent’s father was and how he ended up with Lucrecia (Sephiroth’s mother).
Dirge of Cerberus also gives us an insight as to why Sephiroth became so crazy.
As of the time of this article, there is no confirmation of a remake for Dirge of Cerberus but after all the Final Fantasy 7 projects and side games that are being made, there is no way that Square Enix will leave this game behind.
