We Interviewed Artist Fox Ferret!

We had the pleasure of chatting with Artist Fox Ferret all about their work! Be sure to check it out to learn more about inspirations, goals, and their creative journey!

1.What initially inspired you to become a creator, and how has that inspiration evolved throughout your creative journey?

The thing that initially inspired me was seeing all the creators at cons I went to as a kid. It made me want to explore and show my work! After that, I dived into my work and went to art school. I have close friends that let me grow and help me figure out my work as well as my professors as well. I look into all media for ideas nowadays instead of just my favorites.

2.Can you share a specific moment or experience that fueled your passion for your current creative project?

When I was in middle school my best friend and I began a story then over the years I got more stories going. I then saw a friend of mine world-building and I realized that was something I truly wanted to do. I always wanted to be able to tell my stories in a way so this helped me. Seeing others being able to do this was amazing.

3.What challenges have you encountered as an indie creator, and how have they shaped your approach to your work?

Being consistent, I’m currently in school so it’s very hard to just be able to schedule things or post at a consistent time. Another thing I’ve run into is just being able to focus on things. For a while, I never knew why I couldn’t focus. I got diagnosed with ADHD and started medication and this helped so much. I was able to work on things again and I began to post more. I now try to post at least once a week if possible!

4.Are there any particular creators who have significantly influenced your style or approach? How do you incorporate those influences into your own unique voice?

I have tons of influences but I think the main one I have is the art of the game Mass Effect. It holds a place in my heart being the game that got me going into what I want to do. I always loved futuristic and sci-fi art. It’s what inspired my work and you can probably see it more in my writing when I get posting to it.

5. How do you navigate the balance between staying true to your artistic vision and adapting to feedback from your audience or collaborators?

Like I’ve said throughout this I’m a student. An art student actually, one thing we were taught is listening to feedback. While I listen to suggestions I try them out and if they don’t work then I try the suggestion with a different approach. I believe as long as you tried what someone said then you at least took the feedback whether it worked or not!

6.Can you recall a memorable success story or milestone in your indie creator journey that stands out as a turning point for you?

Getting my first commission. It was I believe from a college friend or my current partner. I’m not sure but it was a while ago. This commission showed me I can do this in my life and career. It put hope in me and I was very excited! Still am!

7.What role do setbacks or failures play in your creative process, and how do you overcome them to keep moving forward?

I usually step away for a few days and come back with new eyes. I always run into issues whether it’s tech, focus, or creative endeavors I take a break. I tend to overwork myself at times.

8. How do you manage your time and energy to sustain a consistent creative output while juggling other aspects of life?

… I will be honest, I’m busy. If you ask any of my friends or classmates then they can tell you how busy I am. I am lucky enough that most of my jobs let me work on things during it! As well as my internship! I always find a balance even if it’s a weird balance it is a balance nonetheless.

9.Have you found any unexpected joys or rewards in the indie creator community, and how has it contributed to your overall experience?

Being able to find like-minded people like me! I made such amazing friends while being here that I couldn’t be where I am now without them!

10.If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring creators, what would it be based on your own lessons learned?

The advice I could give is don’t give up. I know it’s generic but someone needs to hear it. At times I felt like I was going nowhere and I was struggling mentally. It can be a lot but you will be able to get over it. You will get where you see even if it’s not the way you would imagine. You got this.

11. What are your thoughts on All Ages of Geek? What are some things we should change/do? What are something you enjoy about our website?

I think what you guys do to help small creators get their name and work out is amazing! I wish I had known about you before I even saw your post. Maybe working with some channels in the sphere you’re in or branch out?

12. Goals for 2024?

My biggest goal is to have my world-building of Alatheia finished. Well, at least the basics. I also want to have a more consistent schedule of posting and getting things done!
