Anime titles give audiences an idea of what the show will be about. Titles are usually pithy and are telling of their stories’ themes. Yet, in the case of some anime, their titles are so ridiculous that it can be hard to tell what they are really about. Other times, the titles are so long that fans know the whole plot simply by reading the name.
Ridiculous anime titles can be extremely telling or exceptionally misleading. Fans may start an anime based on a particular title, only to be completely surprised by what the show is actually about. Likewise, fans can grow weary of anime whose titles gave away the whole story. Even so, these ridiculous anime titles never fail to make fans chuckle.
10/10 How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift? Challenges The Protagonist & The Audience
How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift? is a sports anime about a young girl named Hibiki Sakura who begins training at a gym to feel better about herself. With the help of Akemi Soryuin, Hibiki begins to reach her goal of becoming stronger and more confident.
This anime’s title is a humorous question, but accurately describes the theme of the show. The stronger Hibiki grows, the more weight she can lift. The title of the show also poses the same question to fans, encouraging them to start working out and getting fit.
9/10 Even Some Fans Don’t Know The Full Title Of KonoSuba
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! is an isekai anime about the unfortunate Kazuma Satou. After having a heart attack, Kazuma is told he is being sent to a new world but can travel with anything he wishes. Much to her chagrin, Kazuma chooses to bring the goddess Aqua with him.
The English translation of this title is God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!, which stands in sharp contrast to Kazuma and Aqua’s experience in the village of Axel. They and their group often find themselves in ridiculous and dangerous situations, prompting fans to ponder just how wonderful their new world is.
8/10 Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day References The Past
Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai, better known as Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, is a tragic anime about a group of friends trying to get on with their lives years after one of them died. However, Jinta “Jintan” Yadomi has started seeing Meiko “Menma” Honma’s ghost, and cannot seem to make her disappear.
Anohana is a beautiful anime that explores the many manifestations of grief, and how losing someone can change people’s lives. Though the title is long, it harkens back to a simpler time when the Super Peace Busters were all together.
7/10 Do You Love Your Mom And Her Two-Hit Muti-target Attacks? Gets Right To The Point
Masato Oosuki is an average teen when he finds himself caught up in a government scheme, and is transported into a game world. Although it is like a lot of gaming isekai, Masato is surprised to find that his mother is there with him.
Though he is initially against his mom tagging along on his adventures, Masato quickly discovers that she is one of the most powerful people in their new world. The title of this show alludes to this fact – giving audiences a heads-up about Mamako’s real power. Do You Love Your Mom And Her Two-Hit Muti-target Attacks? asks Masato if he loves his powerful mom.
6/10 Puella Magi Madoka Magica Subverts Audience Expectations
Madoka Kaname is one of several girls who is tricked into becoming a magical girl by a creature named Kyubey in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. However, Kyubey has much more sinister plans in store for them than just being protectors of Earth.
This anime wants audiences to believe it is a typical magical girl anime. “Puella Magi” is Latin for “girl of the sorcerer,” meaning that the title reads “Magical Girl Madoka Magic.” It seemed to work, as this dark tale of deception shocked many fans at the time of its release.
5/10 Rascal Does Not Dream Of Bunny Girl Senpai Hints At The Major Plot Point
In Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, Sakuta Asusagawa notices his classmate Mai Sakurajima wandering around the library wearing a bunny suit. Curious about this mysterious girl, Sakuta approaches her, and Mai confesses that she thinks she is going invisible since Sakuta seems to be the only person who can see her.
This show is a poignant story about the struggles of adolescence. Though its title is a little long and misleading, it is saying that Sakuta is not dreaming of Mai, but is instead immune to her newly discovered Adolescent Syndrome. Fans who love the supernatural should watch this surprisingly touching show about self-acceptance.
4/10 My Next Life As A Villainess: All Routes Lead To Doom!! Tells An Unavoidable Truth
Katarina Claes is a spoiled nobleman’s daughter, or so she thinks, until she gets hit in the head and remembers her past life as an average Japanese high schooler. She also discovers that she has reincarnated into the life of an Otome game villain, and does everything in her power to avoid the bad end that awaits her character.
My Next Life As A Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!!is a long anime title that practically sums up the show. Katarina is a villainess, and everything she does could lead to her demise or banishment. Even though the premise is given away, fans love this show for its humorous hijinks and endearing protagonist. Fans of Otome games and harem anime are sure to love this lengthy titled show.
3/10 FLCL Has No Meaning, Just Like Its Title
FLCL follows the story of twelve-year-old Naota Nandaba who encounters a girl named Haruko Haruhara riding a Vespa. Haruko then runs Naota over. After reviving him, she hits him on the head, where giant robots begin emerging from the wound. Haruko claims she is an alien investigator, and her continued involvement with Naota and his family could put them all in danger.
Though fans may be tempted to read out each letter individually, the title is pronounced “Fooly Cooly.” The title does not have a meaning but seems to match the show’s premise in terms of strangeness. FLCL is ridiculous from start to finish, and that includes its title.
2/10 I Want To Eat Your Pancreas Is Far From A Horror Series
I Want To Eat Your Pancreas is a misleading anime title for a tale of romance. However, the show is a heart-wrenching story of love, death, and learning to accept both. Haruki Shiga and Sakura Yamauchi fall in love after meeting by chance in a hospital. Unfortunately, Sakura has a terminal illness, meaning their time spent together will be brief. Despite this, the two decide to love each other until it is her time.
I Want To Eat Your Pancreas sounds like a much different anime than it is. However, as Sakura explains, the title references an ancient practice of eating healthy animal organs if people had sickly ones. However, the end of the movie paints a different reason altogether for the saying. Contrary to its title, I Want To Eat Your Pancreas is a beautiful show that romance anime fans should watch.

With his powerful Fist of the Nose Hair ability and his companions at his side, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo does everything he can to return hair to glory and dethrone Czar Baldy Bald IV.

Any viewer wanting to check this show out for themselves should be prepared for many goofy hijinks and getting tongue-tied when trying to say the title out loud.
