Chainsaw Man: The New “Must Watch” Anime

The highly anticipated anime adaption of the popular manga, Chainsaw Man, has made its big debut on Crunchyroll. The manga is written and illustrated by Fujimoto Tatsuki. Chainsaw Man (the manga) made its first appearance back in December 2018, in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump. It quickly became popular because of how likable and human the characters appeared – as if you were actually hearing a conversation between two people and not just reading manga dialogue. Now that it has hit the anime scene, it won’t be long until this becomes a new fan favorite.

Denji and Pochita

Chainsaw Man Background

Chainsaw Man follows the story of a boy named Denji who was stuck paying his father’s debts – although he was equally as broke. In his search to find a way to make money, he saves the life of a Devil dog named Pochita. Meeting Pochita will change the trajectory of his life forever. He is now gifted with the ability to kill Devils for the Yazuka (the bad guys). The events that follow after this is what makes him the Chainsaw Man (no spoilers here).

Studio MAPPA helped make this anime possible and they are quite possibly the best choice to get the job done. MAPPA is popular because of their crisp animation and clean battle transitions. They have animated Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Banana Fish to just name a few. Chainsaw Man, the manga, has a lot of complex character transformations and intense gory scenes. We have no doubt that all of those incredibly detailed moments in the manga have been animated beautifully with the hands of those at MAPPA.

Chainsaw Anime Release

The first episode of Chainsaw Man aired on October 11th this year, and the second aired on October 18th. So, we can expect a new episode every Tuesday. The reviews have been nothing short of high praise, with an outstanding 100% on Rotten Tomatoes thus far. Even before it first aired, teaser trailers and fan edits of Chainsaw Man were widely trending on TikTok. Since the show has been released, it is all over TikTok with even more fan edits and comments referring to it as “the anime of the year”. Videos have also surfaced with people jokingly making Chainsaw Man their new personality trait and dressing like the characters in the show. Needless to say, it has taken over anime social media on almost all platforms.
