Eva: [SCREAMS!!!!] I can’t tell you how much I absolutely ADORE this series and I’m so happy J.C. Staff will be doing this one, it looks absolutely stunning! I I first came across this series through the manga adaption of the series a long time ago and loved it to bits! SO OF COURSE, I WAS SO HAPPY that Yen Press has brought both the novel and manga over!!!! The first volume of the novel did NOT disappoint! I am super psyched for this, as I can’t tell you how much I’m itching to read the rest, which is going to take a couple of years since it’s actually 17 volumes long!!! Volume 2 comes out on January 17th, so alskjdaskld oh man, I wonder if I should try to hold-back from reading it until the season is over? Might be better for suspense purposes, especially since Volume 3 only comes out on April 18th…. so maybe it actually might be better for me to stockpile the volumes for a bit… ANYWAYS, if it isn’t obvious already: This is hands down my most anticipated titles coming out this season! Let’s go go go!

The day after hearing about her death, he’s standing on the station platform and ends up being pushed over onto the tracks by a herd of people. He closes his eyes thinking he’s about to die, but when he opens his eyes back up, he somehow had gone back in time 12 years.

Now that he’s back living the best days of his life, Takemichi decides to get revenge on his life by saving his girlfriend and changing himself that he’d been running away from.

Quietcupcake: Season 2! Let’s go!! They left us off on such a cliff hanger at the end of S1 and I have been dying to know what happens next. Personally, I decided that I wouldn’t jump ahead in the manga, so I’m really hoping that this lives up to the hype of the first season. And if I can be completely honest, I just really want to see how some of my favorite characters are doing. Hey, Takemichi, please don’t let anyone else die, okay?

Tsurune – The Linking Shot (S2)
ツルネ -つながりの一射- | Tsurune: Tsunagari no Issha

Animation Company: Kyoto Animation
Website: tsurune.com
Premiere: January 5, 2023 (JST) | Watch via HIDIVE
Genre: Drama, Slice of Life, Sports
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Synopsis: The second season of Tsurune.

Protagonist Minato Narumiya has reignited his passion for kyudo, the Japanese martial art of archery. Along with his friends in the school kyudo club, he returns for an all-new second season and feature-length film of Kyoto Animation’s beloved Tsurune.

Eva: I seriously need to rewatch the first season HAHAHA! But yay! I’m really glad to see this is getting a second one on top of a movie, so this is exciting! Can’t wait!

Quietcupcake: Okay, so it has been a hot minute since I watched season one of Tsurune, but I do remember thoroughly enjoying it! The first season focused pretty heavily on Minato’s growth as he returned to the sport, and I absolutely loved watching his growth. I enjoyed the other characters as well, but I felt like they didn’t get the justice they deserved in the first season, so I’m hoping we’re able to get more from them! Of course, this PV definitely looks like we’re going to get another rival and I’m totally down for that! Now I just need to re-watch that first season before Jan 5!

Genre: Fantasy
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2

She fails her university entrance exams due to the shock of losing her family. There are people who are after her parents’ insurance money. She doesn’t know whether she should go to college or start working. There are also lots of expenses to worry about, including living expenses and the cost of maintaining the house.

One day, as she worries about how she’ll survive, she’s given the “World Jumping” ability by a mysterious being that allows her to go back and forth between “this world” and an “isekai”! Now that she has this ability, she comes up with a plan for the future in which she saves 1 billion yen in each world for a total of 2 billion yen (80,000 gold coins)!

Kazanova: I’ve read the manga, and enjoy the humor thanks to Mitsuha’s shenanigans and the reaction of the characters she interacts. I remember there was a chapter where it has a joke that this series would be adapted into anime, and here we are, it truly get an anime! XD

The Fire Hunter
火狩りの王 | Hikari no Ou

Source: Novel
Animation Company:
Website: hikarinoou-anime.com
Premiere: January 14, 2023 | Watch via Crunchyroll
Genre: Fantasy

Outside the magical barriers lies a world overrun by fiery beasts known as Flame Demons, and the only ones who can protect humanity are the Fire Hunters. In the dark woods where the beasts roam is where Touko, a young villager, is rescued from attack by one of these skilled trackers, Koushi. But their meeting was no accident, and a new destiny begins.

Eva: Holy smokes, talk about a throwback! When I first watched the trailer it imeaditely reminded me of the older anime and sure enough, we got a lot of veterans involved in this project that really gives this a touch of old-school such as Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in Shell), and character designs by Takuya Saito (Wolf’s Rain). And for that reason alone, I certainly feel like this is a show worth checking out.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? IV P2

Animation Company:
Website: danmachi.com

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Romance
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Synopsis: The second cour of the fourth season of Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka.

Eva: Hey, remember back in the first episode in the first cour when I said it screams things are bound to be more gruesome? Well, the first cour certainly ended on that note, and this half— oh man, Ryu’s backstory is going to be absolutely heart-wrenching to watch. As many readers say, the best arc of the series. So brace yourselves, we’re in for hell of a ride!

As I did not finish covering the first half of Season 4 (unfortunately I was just too burned out at the time and needed to make some cuts to take it easy), that means I won’t be resuming the coverage. Man, that’s really sad to say. I thought I’d hop right back to it since I really do love this series, but I also feel like with all the action, this this quickly turning into one I enjoy watching more than writing about.

Whenever his secret romantic feelings for his unique yet kind coworker Fuyutsuki intensify, he sometimes ends up freezing those around him. Then, there’s Fuyutsuki. Everyone always sees her as the cool type, but Fuyutsuki is actually also pretty curious about her mysterious coworker, Himuro.

Their relationship continues to gradually evolve daily through work and work events. Eventually, they start to spend time with each other outside of work, but they’re both a bit awkward when it comes to love, so they just can’t seem to get closer…

A heartwarming workplace fantasy romcom starring a seemingly cool couple is about to begin!

Eva: I won’t be covering this, but having read the manga I know I’ll certainly be watching it! This is a very cute and fluffy Josei Romance, so if you want something wholesome, then definitely put this on your watch-list!

Quietcupcake: … I saw a trailer for this a little bit ago and it seems really cute! I’m really happy that it’s a series that has romance between some “older” characters rather than your typical high schoolers. I’m definitely going to give this one a try!

Endo and Kobayashi Live!
The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte

ツンデレ悪役令嬢リーゼロッテと実況の遠藤くんと解説の小林さん  | Tsunlise

Source: Light Novel
Animation Company: Tezuka Productions
Website: tsunlise-pr.com
Premiere: January 7, 2023 | Watch via HIDIVE
Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Romance
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Synopsis:

Endo and Kobayashi just decided to play A Magical Romance, an otome game featuring a devious villainess named Lieselotte. Kobayashi thinks Lieselotte is a traditionally dastardly villain but Endo insists Lieselotte is just misunderstood. The pair bicker and argue about Lieselotte’s character and motivations. But little do they know that Lieselotte’s in-game fiancé can hear their every word, and their colorful chatter will lead him down a completely different path than his character is supposed to tread.

Eva: Another manga adaption I happened across by chance a year or two ago, and I must say it’s not just charming but also fun and refreshing. The MCs’ are so relatable when it comes to expressing their feelings about the characters in the game, that the entire time I’ve been reading it I kept on thinking, “MOOD!”, so I’m really looking forward to it! It’s going to be so much fun to watch!

Quietcupcake: … Villainess romantic comedies was not a genre I ever expected to get into, but I just thoroughly enjoy every series that I’ve read and watched about that. When something is scripted out in a certain way, but they manage to change it for the better (and funnier) just really brings me joy. I’m excited to see how Endo and Kobayashi influence Lieselotte’s fiancé’s decisions!!

Her devotion to her missions often earned her violations of regulations, and one day, she is ordered to assemble a platoon with Martin, Iseria, and Talion for an impossible spy mission to Erebonia to gather information on the “Imperial Hero” a mysterious threat to North Ambria.

Eva: Games adaptions are always a hit and miss, but as someone who has always been eyeing the Legend of Heroes series, but have yet to play any of its titles, I figured this would be a chance to maybe finally get a feel for it, so as long as the the story is good anyways, ahaha!

Kazanova: OH YEAH! Trails of Cold Steel is the very first Legend of Heroes/Trails game I played and the one that got me into the series! The announcement of the anime adaptation that takes place during the Winter War that’s only mentioned in the game quickly got my full attention. Though the anime would focus on the anime original characters, I’m still beyond happy to see Rean and a few others would make appearance in the anime. No way I’m gonna miss this!

Though both are part of a clan that return the spirits back to their world with divine powers, their experiences with the otherworldly vessels are vastly different. Kunato, robbed of a loved one, and Nagatsuki, saved by them. Can she get through to him?

Eva: This is a title among some series I’ve dabbled in a bit before, and though I don’t remember much of it I am looking forward to seeing the adaption.

Kazanova: What got my attention to this anime is the part where two protagonists shares the same occupation, but two have opposing opinions, namely Kunato who and Nagatsuki. I’m usually attracted to this kind of characters dynamic, so I’m a bit curious how it’ll turn out.

Eva: So this was one of the series I decided to do a blind pick-up on the whim when I do my bulk-book orders, and I must say I like this one a lot to the point I decided to start collecting it. Mahiru and Amane are very charming together and it’s a wholesome read, so check this one out if you’re looking for a sweet romance!

Source: Light Novel
Animation Company: MAPPA
Website: tondemoskill-anime.com
Premiere: January 10, 2023 | Watch via Crunchyroll
Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Synopsis:

Mukoda Tsuyoshi, an ordinary salaryman, is suddenly transported to another world one day. The unique skill he gains upon arrival in this world is the seemingly useless “Online Grocery.” Mukoda is discouraged at first, but the modern foods he’s able to bring to his new world using this skill prove to have some unbelievable effects!

Quietcupcake: … This series just seems really silly and fun, so that’s why it caught my eye. I don’t really know much about the series, but the thought of a guy who has the ability to buy his groceries online and then cook / share food with people of this new world just seems like a good time. I’m hoping that it’s just a nice wholesome story of a guy feeding people and making friends along the way :’)

Kazanova: Food-themed isekai anime? Count me in! It’s always enjoyable to see an iseka-id protagonist to introduce “new dishes” to the residents of another world. Seeing the characters enjoying the food together makes the food I’m eating while watching it even more yummy! (^w^)

Quietcupcake: Originally, I was going to pass over this one, but the PV really won me over! It looks like it has the potential to be a really nice story about girls who just really love their sports, and also make friends along the way. Even though I know next to nothing about the series, I’m hoping that the story is good and that it blows past my expectations.

Eva: For whatever reason, when TECHNOROID: OVERMIND was first announced (before it was postponed to this season) it did pique my curiosity after looking into the staffs behind the project. But we’ll have to see whether this will actually hold my attention beyond an episode or two.

Akira then forms an idol group with Banri Naoe and Chihiro Isuzugawa, who were also scouted. Their new group, Protostar, will have their debut alongside other new idol groups with sMiLea Production: Legit and Jaxx Jaxx.

Eva: Okay I must confess, the PV was enough to entice me to go and check out the rest of their youtube page to listen to their songs. They do have some nice covers and songs, so I’m willing to give this one a shot.

Quietcupcake: … As much as I enjoy ‘idol’ series, I also know that there’s a bunch that are… not the best. So when I saw this on the list of airing anime for the season I almost skipped over it. But like Eva, the PV caught my attention so I’m willing to give this a try!

I’m looking forward to seeing how P.A. Works works this trope.

Quietcupcake: … I love that the description is so short, but it was enough to make me want to watch it haha! Do I know what to expect? No. But watching to criminals try to carry out their mission with the chaos of a child? Heck yeah, I’m down to check it out. I hope it’s a good time!

Overall Thoughts

Eva: Well this season isn’t too shabby for me mainly because…with the exception of Campfire Cooking in Another World and Spy Classroom, I’ve already read 90% of the titles I’ve dropped my impression on here hahaha! I am glad however, that they are finally expanding the tropes and genres variety outside of the bloody isekai niche, because holy crap, apart from the series I am already invested in, I am so done with it. This season has a lot to offer in terms of some nice series to enjoy, so I’m looking forward to it!

This Winter I hope to pick up at least two or three titles this season since I sort of wounded ended up taking a semi-hiatus during Fall (which was actually for the best really). Right now I can guarantee I’m covering Sugar Apple Fairy Tale – no debate there, I am obsessed with this series and I’m hungry for more! The ones that are up in the air for pick-ups are Hikari no Ou, The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, The Tale of Outcasts, and Tomo-chan Is a Girl! As for Hirogaru Sky Precure… I don’t know yet. It’s a long commitment to something that’s been on a terrible streak of disappointment for me. I just feel like they’ve been struggling lately, so I can only hope with this being their 20th anniversary season it will be in better. As usual, I’ll give it a shot, but we’ll see whether I’m really up to investing my time in it this year.

Quietcupcake: … There’s quite a bit to check out this season! I just hope I can fit it all into my schedule. For me, there are a lot of wild cards this season since I have no prior experience with any of these series (except of course some sequels). Those first few weeks of January are going to be packed as I give a bunch of these shot! When it comes to covering, I’m much more up in the air. Buddy Daddies and The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague due to their genre, I probably won’t cover them on this blog but will have a good time watching them as they come out. Tsunlise, Campfire Cooking in Another Worldand UniteUp! Are all series that I don’t know what to expect, but I’m just hoping that they are good. These three might end up being palate cleansers for some other series this season for me, so I might not keep up with them airing. To Your Eternity Season 2 is still going strong into the new year, so I’ll be continuing my coverage of that and since I covered the first season of Tokyo Revengers, I think I’d like to cover Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown as well. So, if I do pick up another series it will probably be either Tsurune – The Linking Shot or Mou Ippon! (are we really surprised that I narrowed it down to the two sports anime on this list?). Ah! I’m really looking forward to this season!!

Kazanova: Unexpectedly, there are quite series that got my attention this season. Lately, there’s not much anime that I’m interested in and usually only watch certain episodes from the series. Maybe it’ll be difficult, but I’ll do my best that I can update regularly between my works. I promise that I will cover Trails of Cold Steel: Winter War and Rougo no Sonaete Isekai de 8-manmai no Kinka wo Tamesu. As for Mononogatari and Campfire in Another World, that depends on their debut episode once it’s aired. Maybe I’ll watch it, but it’s still not determined whether I’ll cover for them or not. Perhaps reading the manga may change my mind? Nevertheless, I hope these series will ignite my writing spirit again! (^_^)
